Carbohydrates

What are the types of carbohydrates? Give examples for each type.

Simple and complex.  Sugar is simple; starch and fiber are complex. Sugar, for instance, is made of milk, pineapple, and watermelon.  Potatoes, corn, and beans make up starch. Carrots, lettuce, and strawberries are high in fiber.

Why do we need to eat carbohydrates?

Consuming carbohydrates gives you energy during the day and helps your body avoid using glucose, which is the source of your energy. However, consuming too many carbohydrates increases your risk of weight gain and heart disease. Your body converts carbohydrates from food into simple sugar, which is then taken into the bloodstream.

How much carbohydrates should we eat daily?

It's up to you, but you need to eat a healthy portion and limit your intake of carbohydrates. The dietary standards suggest that carbohydrates should make up 45% to 65% of your daily calorie requirement.
